Juicing Experience

One of the key features of the Chef GI is its extraction capability. The machine uses a fine strainer to ensure the complete separation of nutrients from the fibrous compounds in fruits and vegetables. This method provides a smooth texture to the juice.

However, I’ve found that sometimes the juice can come out a bit pulpier than I would prefer. This seems to be especially true when juicing celery. If you’re a fan of ultra-clear juice, you may find this to be a slight downside. A simple solution I found was using an additional IKEA RIKLIG strainer to filter the juice straight away from the juicer.

Durability and Maintenance

The Hurom Chef GI Series is built to last. The motor is covered by a 10-year warranty, and the remaining parts are covered by a 2-year warranty. Over the year I’ve been using it, the Chef GI has held up remarkably well. All of its functions continue to work as efficiently as they did on day one.

However, I should note that the black piano finish on the top of the juicer is prone to scratches, and the included container for juice can become cloudy over time. In my case, I believe the cloudiness was caused by celery juice. Now, I prefer to use a separate glass container for collecting juice.

Cleaning the Chef GI is a breeze. It has detachable parts, which makes cleanup much easier. I am also in the process of recording a detailed video showcasing the cleaning process, which I will embed in this post once it’s complete.

Testing the Hurom Chef GI

To make this Hurom Chef GI Review trustworthy, we wanted to show you how the Hurom Chef GI juicer works in a normal kitchen, so we tested it with carrots, celery, and green apples. We used 1kg of each to see how much juice we’d get and how dry the leftover pulp was. This helped us understand how well the juicer works.

We also looked at how long it took to juice each type of fruit and vegetable, and what the juice was like. And we noted how loud the juicer was when it was working.

In the next few parts of this review, we’ll tell you more about what we found out when we tested the Hurom Chef GI juicer with each of these fruits and vegetables.

Carrot Juicing Test

ParameterHurom Chef GI
Juicing Time5min 25s
Juice Yield Weight (from 1kg)540g
Juice Yield percentage (from 1kg)54%
Juice Quality (out of 5)4
Pulp DrynessTBD
Noise Level (in dB)TBD

For the test, we peeled the carrots and cut them into four long pieces. The juicer was quick and efficient, taking only 5 minutes and 25 seconds to juice 1kg of carrots.

The yield was quite impressive as well. Out of 1kg of carrots, we obtained 540g of juice. This means the Chef GI was able to extract 54% juice from the total weight of the carrots. This percentage shows the high efficiency of this juicer when dealing with hard vegetables like carrots.

When it comes to juice quality, the Chef GI performed quite well, scoring 4 out of 5. The juice was clear, vibrant, and almost pulp-fre

We’ll update the table soon with measurements of pulp dryness and noise level, two important factors for many users. We’re also looking forward to comparing these results with the performance of the other juicers to give you a clear idea of which juicer might be the best fit for you. Stay tuned for those results!

Celery Juicing Test

ParameterHurom Chef GIHurom H320N
Juicing Time4min 20s3min 50s
Juice Yield Weight (from 1kg)814g760g
Juice Yield percentage (from 1kg)81%76%
Juice Quality (out of 5)45
Noise Level (in dB)TBDTBD

We started off with washing the celery stalks thoroughly and directly feeding them into the juicer, without the need for any cutting. The Chef GI handled the whole stalks quite well thanks to its built-in knives into the chamber cap, making the process quicker and smoother. It took just 4 minutes and 20 seconds to juice 1kg of celery, demonstrating the juicer’s remarkable speed and efficiency.

We were also very pleased with the amount of juice produced. From 1kg of celery, we obtained 814g of juice, which is a highly impressive yield of approximately 81.4%. This further emphasizes the high performance of the Chef GI when dealing with vegetables, including leafy greens.

When it came to the quality of the juice, we gave it a 4 out of 5. Although the juice was generally good, we did notice that it was slightly more pulpy than we’d prefer at times. However, this is a common issue when juicing celery, and the overall quality of the juice was still very good.

The pulp left behind after juicing was reasonably dry, with a measured dryness of 44%. This indicates that the juicer effectively extracted a good amount of juice from the celery.

We did the same test with Hurom H320N, the yield was a a bit lower but the juice was clearer then the one from Hurom GI. You can check the full Hurom H320N review here.

Pros

  1. Great looking & simple design for your kitchen
  2. Really simple and fast cleaning, much easier than any other juicer I’ve tried.
  3. There is no need for cutting fibrous vegetables on small parts (e.g. celery) as this is the case with other “non horizontal” juicers. For others juicers you need to cut fibrous vegetables on on 4cm pieces. The reason for this is that vertical juicers have chamber lids with knifes and are able to cut the pulp.

Cons

  1. I’ve found that sometimes the juice can come out a bit pulpier than I would prefer. This seems to be especially true when juicing celery. If you’re a fan of ultra-clear juice, you may find this to be a slight downside. A simple solution I found was using an additional IKEA RIKLIG strainer to filter the juice straight away from the juicer.
  2. The black piano finish on the top of the juicer is prone to micro scratches. But this is generally a problem with glossy piano finish surfaces.
  3. The included container for juice can become cloudy over time. In my case, I believe the cloudiness was caused by celery juice. Now, I prefer to use a separate glass container for collecting juice.
