This is the second recipe in our hangover helper series. Today, I’m sharing my ‘Morning Revival’ juice.
Did last week’s ‘Detox Boost‘ help you out? Well, this week’s recipe might be even better for those rough mornings after a night out.
If you’re planning to party this weekend, why not grab the ingredients for this juice in advance? That way, you’ll be all set if you wake up feeling less than great.
Remember, the best way to avoid a hangover is still to drink less. But if you need a little pick-me-up, my Morning Revival juice might be just what you need!
Ingredients
- 1/4 of a medium pineapple (about 200g)
- 1 medium cucumber (about 200g)
- A small handful of fresh mint leaves (about 10g)
- 1 medium green apple (about 150g)
- 1/2 lime, peeled
Procedure
- First, wash all your fruits and veggies really well. Peel the lime. We don’t want the peel in our juice. Cut the pineapple, cucumber, and apple into pieces that will fit in your juicer. Don’t make them too big! Grab your mint leaves. No need to chop them. Now, let’s start juicing:
- Put the cucumber pieces through the juicer
- Follow with the pineapple chunks
- Add the apple pieces
- Toss in the mint leaves
- Finally, add the peeled lime half
- Give your juice a good stir. Sometimes the different juices can separate a bit. Pour into a glass and enjoy!
If you find the juice too thick, you can add a little water or some ice cubes. Drink it right away for the best taste and most nutrients.
Remember, while this juice is tasty and full of good stuff, it’s not a magic cure for a hangover. The best way to avoid needing it is to drink less alcohol. But when you do need a boost, I hope this helps!
Why these ingredients?
Pineapple
After a night of drinking, your digestion might be off, and pineapple can help. It contains bromelain, an enzyme that aids in breaking down food, potentially easing stomach discomfort. Research has shown that bromelain possesses anti-inflammatory and digestive properties, making it beneficial for gastrointestinal health. Additionally, pineapple is rich in vitamin C, which is often depleted by alcohol consumption, further supporting recovery after drinking.
Cucumber
Cucumbers are often touted as a remedy for hangovers due to their high water content, which is about 95%, making them an excellent choice for rehydration. Additionally, they contain essential nutrients such as B vitamins and electrolytes that can help replenish what the body loses during alcohol consumption.
Mint
Feel like you might be sick? Mint is great for fighting nausea, a common hangover problem. It can also help freshen your breath, which might not feel so great the morning after.
Green Apple
Hangovers can leave you feeling low on energy. Apples have natural sugars that give you a quick energy boost without crashing later. They also have fiber, which can help if your stomach is upset.
Lime
Drinking can mess with your body’s pH levels. Lime juice might help balance this out. It’s also full of vitamin C, which alcohol depletes from your body.
Taste
When I tasted this Morning Revival hangover juice, I was pleasantly surprised! The flavor is fantastic – the pineapple and lime really shine through. It’s like a tropical wake-up call for your taste buds!
The hangover juice did turn out a bit pulpy, which some of you might enjoy for the extra fiber. But if you prefer a smoother drink, using a high-end juicer like the Hurom H320N / H330P would probably give you a clearer result.
Here’s a pro tip: If you’re not a big fan of lime, try squeezing it separately instead of juicing it with everything else. This way, you can add just the right amount for your taste in your hangover juice.
One small downside was the foam on top, likely from the pineapple. Again, a more advanced juicer like the H320N or H330P might handle this better. But honestly, a quick stir before drinking solves this easily.
Overall, I think this hangover juice is a refreshing and tasty way to start your morning, especially after a night out!
